ABOUT MALE BASEBALL
For over a century, fans have cheered at the crack of the bat of the Male High School Bulldogs. From Shawnee Park in the early 1900's to Bill Edwards field nearly a century later, a rich baseball tradition has continued to thrive and prosper.
Although the only State Championship recorded by the KHSAA was in 1944, the Male High School Bulldogs had already earned 5 State Championships in the early 1900's, almost 40 years before the KHSAA began documenting baseball records. Most recently, under Coach Todd Driskell, the Bulldogs earned the title of 2003 State Runner-Up.
Male High Baseball teams throughout the 20th century and to the present day have had the benefit of dedicated and talented coaches, some of whom have spent a significant portion of their lives with the Bulldogs. Coach William Bradbury served for over 30 years in the position of Head Coach beginning in the early 1900's. Coaches Bill Watts and Earl Driskell dedicated over 15 years each from the early 1980's to the late 1990's, leading the Bulldogs to 5 Regional Championships and a runner-up in the Semi-State Championship in 1992. Today, Head Coach Todd Driskell (son of Coach Earl Driskell) spends countless hours molding players into committed dedicated individuals both on the field and off.
Over the last 150 years, the Bulldogs have rounded the bases at numerous fields throughout Louisville. Some of the fields that they have called home are Shawnee Park, Churchill Park, Seneca Park, and Durrett Field, among others. Today the Bulldogs enjoy their own state of the art facility, Bill Edwards Field, which includes in-ground dugouts, a press box, and professional lighting. Truly the Bulldogs are proud to call Bill Edwards Field "home".
Male High School Baseball owes a great portion of it's success to dedicated alumni, such as Bill Edwards Jr.; class of 1937. Mr. Edwards currently is the owner and chairman of Cardinal Aluminum. Mr. Edwards has possessed a passion for baseball since his early years. He played on the Male High School baseball team and later played in Louisville's best semi-pro league. His involvement with baseball continues to this day, and Mr. Edwards has been instrumental in helping the Bulldogs by generously donating time and money to continue the Male High Baseball tradition. He says, "I sense pride in the Coaches, Bill Watts and Earl Driskell and our Coach succeeding them, Todd Driskell, all sound baseball men dedicated to Male High School and their players."
Male High School Baseball has enjoyed a rich heritage, built upon the talent and dedication of coaches, alumni and players that continues to the present day, and promises to continue for many years to come.
